Last Year I developed Bell’s Palsy during pregnancy. One side of my face had no movement or feeling at all and as a result my speech and sight were both affected. I was also suffering from severe crippling headaches.

Ben’s treatment quickly helped me to re-gain facial movement and to eliminate all facial and head tension. Throughout the course of treatment I had, Ben remained professional, supportive and reassuring, particularly important to me during a physically painful and emotionally difficult time.

After my sessions I felt I could re-focus on and enjoy the remainder of my pregnancy:

I was ready to smile properly again when my daughter was born!

Dr. Ben Mathew first came to my attention through a friend of mine who was having treatment for a back problem. He always spoke highly of  Ben  and the professional care he got.

For months I have been suffering from migraine headaches, I have been getting on average 2-3 per week. My friend gave me some of Ben’s literature on how the nervous system affects everything we do. After reading this I was amazed by how much this resonated with me and how this described the symptoms that I was experiencing.

Then came, the straw that broke the camel’s back, I had 4 migraines in 4 day! So I decided to give Ben a try. This was one of the best decisions I have ever made!

Upon arrival I was warmly greeted by Izzy who made me feel welcome and at ease. Then upon meeting Ben for the first time I was not only impressed by his professionalism but also by his passion and enthusiasm for what he does.

After the initial consult Ben put everything in terms that was very easy to understand while he was describing his findings and the treatment plan he felt was the way forward for my case.

The only time that I get a headache now is after a few too many beers on a Saturday night!

So I would like to say a big thanks to Ben and Izzy, the improvement in my quality of life has been immense.

(Opera Singer)

Since testimonials tend to do most good when they read like sound bites, let me start mine by stating facts about results first:

Pain free after 10 months of debilitating lower back and hip joint pain and ache.

There!

Being referred to Dr. Ben Mathew by the Welsh National Opera while here on contract may have been the biggest job perk ever!

I am an avid user of alternative medical and therapeutic methods, but nothing had made a dent in my muscular back and body pain.  I was, honestly, at the end of my rope.

Being an opera singer, feeling weak, being in pain, being unable to sleep more than and hour or so at a time, is devastating.  Obviously it is tiring on a personal level, especially when doctors of various kinds start telling you that it is all in your head, or that it is simply stress related pain that you will have to “learn to live with”.  Sorry, but I am too young to have pain like that and LEARN TO LIVE WITH IT!!

All I can say is that I am glad that I didn’t buy into that rubbish.

It is what people say when they personally don’t have an answer.

After the initial assessment, Dr. Mathew started by informing me of my  issues and problems, explaining how the body should be aligned, and showing exactly how mine wasn’t.  And the way he explained it made perfect sense in relation to the pain I was experiencing.

My first chiropractic adjustment triggered both tears and giggles, as the relief and drop of pressure in my back left me literally light-headed. Ben Mathew is a fun and good natured person who encourages you to just be with and experience whatever comes up, with no judgment or overly analytical explanations for what is going on (although, I suspect that Ben secretly has his theories and plans the treatment accordingly!!).  It is with acceptance and humor, and childlike glee that Ben and I traveled the pretty intense road of my treatment.  This is a really good thing when you’re in pain, and to be honest, a bit emotionally exhausted trying to figure it out.

An intensive course of 12 sessions of chiropractic, InterX, and exercises left me in awe one morning, when I woke up and sat up in bed, got up and was able to walk around without any pain at all.  The pain has stayed away, despite a heavy work schedule, including the opening of a new opera and extensive travel.

Ben sent me off after my stint in Cardiff, with a plan for my follow-up treatment, orthotics for my shoes for the prevention of imbalances due to incorrect pressure in the feet, and an open invitation for consultation while I’m on the road.

It is hard to imagine a more comprehensive, trustworthy, comfortable and future-affirming treatment plan.

I am walking, dancing, singing and sleeping.

I am grateful.

(Go Ben!!)

I am not in the habit of writing gushing testimonials, but in the case of Cardiff Bay Chiropractic I am prepared to make an exception in the hope that others may benefit as I have.

I have suffered from back pain for decades and have relied on heavy doses of medication just to ‘get by’. It’s been pretty miserable.

However, courtesy of the ‘healing hands’ of Dr. Ben Mathew, not only have I been able to cut back on the pain killers but I have also been able to enjoy a pain free walk in the country for the first time in many years. Only if you have suffered daily pain will you appreciate what a joy that is.

I cannot say that I am ‘cured’ or that I now complete in triathlons but my quality of life is much improved and, with this better mobility and Ben’s ongoing help, I am hopeful that I can improve still further.

Over and above the pain relief I also appreciate the fact that I am treated as an individual not a statistic. One is left feeling that your well-being matters to both Ben and Isabel, who plays her part with her welcoming, reassuring and obliging manner.

You are a great team

Thank you both, very much

Dr. Ben Mathew is the only person I have ever met who was able to help me with my back. I initially injured it a few weeks back whilst rehearsing a stunt for the film ‘Resident Evil’, and since then I’ve seen chiropractors, osteopaths, physios, and even tried acupuncture, but only Ben has been able to help me in a lasting way. My only wish is that his practice is in London.

I came to Ben whilst filming ‘Torchwood’ late 2008, and now that’s finished I’m back in London, but Ben is so good I am considering a trip to Cardiff just so he can check me over.

I thoroughly recommend him.

What a difference 6 weeks makes!

A history of sciatica, two lower back prolapsed discs, an increase in slips, trips and falls resulting in a range of subsequent injuries. Each day would bring further difficulties in general movement restrictions, a loss of sleep at night due to cramps in my legs and lower back area and a growing dependency on my husband to assist me in dressing. Coupled with a medical diagnosis that required nuro surgery for a disc removal/ fusal. I feel it fair to say that I was at a low point.

My son has a high regard for the treatment he is receiving from a chiropractor in Cardiff and suggested that I arrange an appointment and have an assessment. I decided to undertake the 100 mile round trip from Llanelli to Cardiff, courtesy of my husband, and to date have completed 6 weeks into my management plan.

I have benefited immensely from the treatment and advice I continue to receive from Ben. I’m free from pain, no longer take medication, have free movement, stand and sit with ease, dress myself and sleep at night.

The overall result has reflected in my general well being and commitment to my health. I’ve started walking and swimming, lost weight and my confidence has returned. I now feel 52 and not 72!!!

More importantly I’ve found a caring, listening professional that I can discuss and plan my future health requirements with.

Thankyou Ben and Izzy

It’s possible to write a testimonial about the treatment I received at Cardiff Bay Chiropractic without it sounding like I think Dr. Ben Mathew should be King of Wales!

As a very active person who trains in the gym 4 or 5 times a week the health of my back is my first priority and over the years I have had treatment from osteopaths and massage therapists for lower back pain. They all seemed to treat the symptoms not the cause. Dr. Ben Mathew was a revelation. Not only did he alleviate my immediate discomfort but most importantly taught me about the vital role my gait and the way I stand and walk has played in the health of my back.

I had about two months of treatment with him and at every session I knew that my health was his ultimate concern. I’m sure he makes everyone of his patients feel the same. I have now been pain free for a year (unheard of for me!) and also have been able to step up my training regime and have signed up for my first Great Manchester 10k Run.

So gushing aside, thank you Dr. Ben, I owe my love of running to you.

Well, What can I say …..?

Ben manages to keep me competing (and generally moving!)

I first came along because I ruptured my Achilles, supposedly a career ending injury. Since then I have managed to return to the level of competition I was at prior to this injury.

This has been due to the treatment provided by Cardiff Bay Chiropractic!

A big thank you to everyone at the clinic!

See you soon.

I have known Dr Benjamin Mathew (Benny) for a few years now. I have used him several times in the past, but only for the occasional ‘whack and crack’ to relieve tension and stiffness after heavy training sessions.

I was training for the London Marathon, the miles were starting to build up, and so, at the beginning of February 2009, I made such an appointment to see Benny again. Between making the appointment and actually attending, I developed some sort of thigh strain. It was painful and took all my effort just to get out of a chair. I struggled with walking, was limping badly, and certainly couldn’t run.

That first appointment was on February 14th. He noticed the fairly obvious limp, and asked what I’d done. I told him I’d strained my thigh, that I’d get a physio to have a look at it, and that I was really just there ‘for the usual’. Needless to say, events took a different course.

He poked, prodded, pulled, twisted, assessed, and then told me that I didn’t need a physio. He explained that I was badly out of alignment and needed some ‘serious adjusting’. He told me that a physio would sort my thigh out for sure, but that the root of the problem was my lower back and hip area, and that without sorting those out, the thigh problem would simply keep re-occurring. I’ll be honest, I was a touch sceptical. How could cracking and popping my back and neck sort out muscle problems in my thigh? But Benny’s a persuasive kind of bloke, and so I went with it.

Visits were every 2 or 3 days to begin with. Some of the deep tissue work he did in addition to the adjusting was excruciating, but fairly quickly the improvement started to come.

On March the 6th, just three weeks after that 1st appointment, I went on a two week ski trip and skied for 13 straight days without even a twinge.

On April 26th, I ran the London Marathon in less than four and a half hours.

For making both these things achievable I will forever be grateful to Benny. Scepticism well and truly busted!

Doctor Ben Gartside Mathew is not only a friend but a true professional and brilliant chiropractor.

Being involved in a physical sport my body and back often come under intense stress and pain. I would have to say that Ben’s magic hands and techniques play a vital part in my body’s recovery.

It has become routine that I visit Cardiff Bay Chiropractic at least 2 or 3 times a month.

Keep up the good work Dr. and Mrs. Mathew, you are holding my body together!

As an actor - Chiropractic helps me in many ways. Relaxation is key to performance in a tense environment and while working on the Welsh language soap, Pobol y Cwm, it helped me not only relax and concentrate but also to learn my lines. I felt de-stressed and at ease due to my chiropractic sessions - Lines seemed to flow as concentration was high and tension was non existent. Life in general was a calmer place.

hope this helps and apologies again

see you soon
